So what the slag have I been doing for the past month?

Still trying to prepare for winter - which is now officially here with the first measurable snowfall.  Pretty neat that it took so long for snow to arrive.  I was starting to think Western NY was turning into Camelot.
♪ ♫ "...The winter is forbidden till December
And exits March the second on the dot...".
We've got the first part down, I guess we'll see what happens in March.  Last year, we had snow on April 18th.  Sucked the big one.  I love that musical.

Anywho -

Besides doing wood and trying to make space in the garage for the truck, I have been trying to catch up online and get my tax classes finished by 12/31.  If I don't have 24 credit hours done, I can't work at H&R Block.  I have 19 so far, and just need to get 2 more classes done.  It seems that the classes got more difficult this year - I failed the Itemized Deduction test twice.  TWICE, SLAG IT!!   How it that possible?  I've been doing itemized deductions for 23 years!  I only have one more chance to pass that course, if I fail again, I will have to wait 6 months to retake.  Slag it - I guess I'm gonna have to actually read the book.

also, you can call me Ms. Crafty-person.
I make evergreen swags as presents for some family members and friends.  Way cheaper than buying stuff, as I go out in the back woods to get greenery. Everything is real except the berries and ornaments.
Here are a couple for you to see.

I found a Scooby-Doo ornament at Target for my friend who helps me cut wood.  He likes Scooby, and I always try to find some type of Scooby collectible for him.  Turned out pretty cute, in my opinion.
In the pic on the right, I took the small bottom bow off and replaced it with berries.  It looked better.
I had to make favor ornaments for our biker bitch Christmas party tomorrow.
You buy clear glass ornaments, rinse them out with alcohol and let dry.  Squirt 4 lines of acrylic paint inside, and another color right next to the first color.  You keep twirling the ball around every 10 minutes to coat the inside.  Wastes a lot of paint, but boy is it fun.  Takes a few hours to coat the inside completely and all night to drain out the excess paint.  Plus, about a week to fully dry inside.  I experimented with glue and sequins on a couple, but suspended that because the glue just took for-ev-er to dry.  Alright, not forever, but it was at least a week before the sequins stopped moving around inside the ball.  Too much effort.

I'm keeping that purple one!
My buddy Betty made another 12 - mostly red and green.  That's why mine are have more blue and purple.  Plus, I like purple.
Betty also put greenery around the tops to pretty them up even more.  I'll have to remember to  take my camera to the party tomorrow.

I hope to work on going through my LJ message inbox this weekend.  I'm afraid I'm just going to have to be ruthless and delete, delete, delete.
I'm never going to get caught up otherwise.  But, don't be surprised if I comment on a posting from 23 weeks ago!

That's all for now.  Let's see if I can get that number down to 1600.

Oooo love those ornaments! They look like planets.

oh, quite true - never noticed that comparison.
Wish I could figure out how to paint an Autobot symbol in there.

That would be AWESOME. Dude, it would be so cool if you made one to look like Cybertron. Or Jupiter. Jupiter is cool. xD

Well, I have a bunch left over to experiment on for next year.
We shall see how it goes.
Jupiter is a pretty planet.

I love the evergreen swags - yours look wonderful!

Also the ornaments. The colors are really nifty! Have fun at your party tomorrow.

Good luck on your on-line classes, and yes, read the book! They changed things in the past year; we had to re-file twice because our accountant kept finding changes. He's good, too, and used to work for the IRS, so it's not like he doesn't know his stuff, but the changes were so many!

The ornaments were really fun to do. And I will have fun and stuff myself with good food.

*grumble* Yeah, I'll read the book.

Those wreaths are GORGEOUS! Mmmm, I bet they smell good, too, that looks like Christmas tree type greenery in the middle.

Your ornaments are lovely, too! They do look like fun.

You can totally whip Itemized Deductions. *cheers you on from the sidelines*

Thank you.
They are composed of hemlock, blue spruce, juniper and white pine boughs.

I shall try my best, probably Monday night, as tomorrow is party day.

Eee! Fantastic swags! A friend and I tried those ornaments one year, but we used fingernail polish we probably weren't going to use otherwise. I kind of think that actually dried in a day or two? Maybe? Anyway, yours look lovely! <3

Thank you!

ooh, nail polish. I shall try that and see how it works. I have lots balls *snigger* left.

Holy shit, 1811?! I'm surprised LJ didn't start deleting the older posts! Happy to hear from you!

Nice, gorgeous job on the swags and the balls! You should sell them for extra money. :-)

Good luck with the test!

yes, I fondly remember the days when I hovered around 1000 messages.

Hmm, there's an idea for next year. I've seen smaller swags for sale around here (and not as nice as mine) for $30. That big one is 3 feet long.

I'm crossing my fingers and eyes!

You so crafty! Those swags are lovely, and the Christmas balls are funky and hip! (now I want to make some ballz)

Read that book, woman!! *slaps yardstick in hand*

By the way! I've finally started on your sassy scarf:
