General impressions of DOTM

No specific spoilers, just generalities.

I went to the 9pm show last night.  What a boring crowd.  No boo's or clapping or anything.  I didn't even see anyone else with a TF t-shirt.  My girlfriend and I were the noisiest people there, as we reacted to some of the dialogue.  I wonder anyone actually got any of the jokes and references.  Pretty pathetic.

First, 3d glasses are annoying. Especially when you already wear glasses.
This was only the 3rd movie I have ever seen in 3D. It is kind of cool - I enjoyed seeing the robots because they seemed to be more detailed. (Or, did they look detailed because they were more detailed?   Don't know.)   But, it didn't impress me that much.  I do plan on going to an IMAX theater to see it again, but will thereafter be content with regular, old movie screens. Cheaper, too.
Plus, I think wearing those glasses gives me a headache.

Quite a bit different from the novel.  The ending surprised me.  A lot of the details were skipped, which made it kind of hard to follow if you hadn't read anything previous to seeing the movie.  I had to tell my girlfriend what was going on about 3 times.  Oh - there was one place where the scene just changed abruptly and I found myself saying, 'what just happened?'  Something, something, then a black screen, and then somewhere else.  I can't even remember where it was - past the halfway mark in the movie - but it was jarring.  (I took some notes, but neglected to write down that specific spot.)  I was happy with some of the changes.

Most of the action was so fast, it was hard for me to figure out who was who in the fights. And you couldn't hear specific lines very well either.  Lots of things seemed mumbled.

All in all, I did like the basic plot of bringing Cybertron to Earth.  I pretty much hated all the little sub-plots.

The parent scenes were a waste of space.

Angsty Sam because of getting dumped.  Oh, pleeze - how old was he?  13?  I didn't care much for him this movie, except for his interaction with Bee in the house and when he cried near the end.

I still say they should have had a 'Con squish Mikeala.  That would have been a much better way to go.  Or just replace her with the new actress, same character.

"You can keep watching him, but he's not getting up.   You've all read Humpty Dumpty." - Bruce.   Sorry, but that was just too funny.

Dutch was made of awesome!   "I'm so sorry!  That is the old me."   His best scene.

Ironhide's scene was more chilling and drawn out in the book.  Went by too quickly onscreen.  But, I still felt...you know.

Starscream and Sam - hated it.  It made a joke of Starscream, which seemed to be the total opposite direction of showing his competency in The Reign of Starscream.

I really wanted to hate Carly, but ended up only having strong dislike.  Her scene with Megs, just like when I read it in the book, struck me as so unbelievable  I just laughed.

A car with tentacles - how cool is that?  And why didn't Sideswipe and Dino sense SW when they pulled up to the apartment?  Made no sense to me.

I liked Sentinal's face.  Well done.  And Nimoy's voice was perfect.  Laughed very loudly when he said the famous Star Trek quote.

The parasites in Meg's head were really nasty, and how weird was it that he just kind of... nonchalantly flicked them off every so often. Weird and funny.

Laserbeak’s tongue.  Need I say more?

Dino was pretty.  I'm kind of glad they changed the name from the novel.  I hope they have a figure of him in the works.

Q was creepy as all get-out.  His face looked skeletal to me - what I believe was supposed to be a mustache looked like teeth to me.  Ug.

Best scene, IMO, was the highway chase where Bee transforms and Sam was sent flying through the air, screaming like a little girl the whole way.

Oh!  The Dreads!   Love, love, love!  They have dreads and Predator mandibles.  I love my Crankcase even more now that I've seen him on the big screen.   Hide and Sides vs the Dreads.  So cool.

And the Wreckers were great.   Once again, made me love Topspin even more.

Was surprised that we actually saw humans getting killed.  (Although I still think OP accidentally squished a human when he fell out of the office building in the first movie.)

Seals and squirrels - gotta love 'em.  *drool* - Lennox.

All in all, I enjoyed the movie.  Not happy with everything, but that's the way it goes.
Considering everything, I would have to say I liked the first movie best.

I still can remember the amazement when I first saw Barricade transform.  (How did they do that?)
And the giddiness when Bee did his little ninja pose in front of the kids.  (Hei-yah!)
And the awe when Prime first unfolded in front of me.  (oooh)
You can say all kinds of things about Bay, but anything he has done had to be with Hasbro's blessing.  They are too careful with their product.  It's because of him that I found the fandom in the first place.

And that makes me happy.

::nodnodnod:: Very similar to how I felt about it all! :D I loved a bunch of little things and wasn't too fussed about the rest.

Ironhide: "C'mon, Prime. Make something of yourself." ::thumps on him::

Oh, yeah, when he thumped him. Excellent character insights.

I am not going to delve too deeply into my TF thoughts on my blog because you are my only TF fan follower. I'll do it here. LOL

1) Shocky messed me up. I have never seen such craziness. The ribcage and the eye were enough to creep me the f out, but then the tentacles, and I was deeply traumatized. The Leader toy for him is on my want list.

2) I heard rumors about my boy being terminated, but I'm holding out hope he isn't gone for good. Seriously, toy sales would suffer if it was so. What did the book say about that? Same with the other big bad guy who was in pieces at the end. I adored RoS, and it's sad that Screamer was made into such a drooling pissant in these movies.

3) Agree 100% about the highway scene. That and the windowed building scene. Craziness.

4) I was pissed about Ironhide. That ain't even right right there.

5) I love me some Crazy John Malkovich, but what the fudge was the point of him being in this movie?! Does he need money that badly? I thought he was more discerning about parts.

6) THANK GOD FOR NO TWINS!! Wreckers were a great replacement team pairing there.

7) I blurted out, "Laserbeak!!" like a squealing fangirl when he first came up, and the lady beside me shushed me. LOL

8) Excellent use of Generation One this time around.

I could go on and on, but I'll leave it be here.

I had a hard time focusing on Shockwave. Actually, focusing on any of the 'cons. They were mostly the same color, and hard to tell apart. I blame the 3D glasses. I have to pay better attention the next time.

I was pretty mad about all the deaths, actually. I know, I know. Some gotta die. But, fan favorites! Again? Pleeze.

And why can't the Matrix revive the dead guys, huh? *grumble*
Fanfiction to the rescue!

You gotta get mor TF friends!

There were so many nameless, Decepticon "extras", I had a hard time even telling who was an actual character, you know? I had to look up the movie on the Trans Wikia to see who did what in the movie. I didn't even know there were 3 Wreckers! I will have to see the movie again now that I have more info.

I'm sick to death of Starscream being killed off in nearly every damn universe to get a reaction from fans. I'm tired of Megs being someone else's lackey. He is THE big bad! Okay, Unicron would be a bigger baddie, but still. That would be a great movie- the Bots and Cons combining forces to combat Unicron, like they did in Armada. That would stir the Bayverse franchise up a bit. Could you imagine what they could do for Unicron with today's movie technology. *mind blown*

Hey, I am all for moar TF friends! Send some my way! :-D
