New Additions and Boring Stuff

Hey look - I'm an auntie!

Baby robins!

Stupid bird, the nest is to the left of my front door.
When the robins were sitting, every time I opened the door or pulled the truck up the driveway, they flew off.  You can see in above pic the truck in the background.  I park pretty close to the house.
Why they didn't pick one of the other corners of the house, I'll never know.

I'll tell ya though, my old cat would have climbed up there faster than greased lightning and eaten them all up.  In fact, she did that once (that I know of) and I had to put chickenwire over the corners of the logs so she couldn't climb up and get the next batch of babies.
I miss my killer kitty.  sniff.

Here are the eggs from 8/1/10.
But I didn't pay attention to when they hatched.  I heard them for the first time on 8/8.

Gawd, baby birds are ugly!
I named them - that's Laserbeak in front, Ratbat to the right and Buzzsaw to the left.  Good luck picking them out from a lineup!

Anywho -
I have been consumed by chaos lately.  My brother just left - well, left on Saturday - from a 2 week visit.  He and his family were staying with me.  Yes, up to 4 people crammed into my little house.  But, it was nice to have people around.
He came up from Oklahoma with the niece and nephew for the first week.  Nephew slept on the futon in the loft, while little bro and my niece were on cots in the basement.  Then the kids left and my sis-in-law came up.  We shopped and went out to dinner with Ma and my sister and bro-in-law/boss.  Very, very busy time.
When Al comes up, he helps me a lot with house stuff.  He fixed my shower, which was leaking into the basement.  Dragged logs up and cut them into sections for me.  Also split some.  My chainsaw broke, from what we can figure, the bar was too long for the engine and it burned itself up.  It would have cost me about $250 to fix it - which I couldn't have done right away.  So he bought me a new saw!!  Best baby brother in the world!! (And I say that with much love and thankfulness, and not just because he reads this journal!)  *kisskiss*
We all had a good time, I think.  At least, I did.  Can't wait 'til next year.

Oh, and I learned some new stuff from him, like how to keep the log from rolling while cutting.
And, he showed me what those holes are for in a truck bumper.  I never knew you could put a ball hitch in there and tow stuff.

Well, I am just a happy camper now, as I was crawling under the truck to attach chains to the axel when I wanted to tow.  Much easier with balls.  Um, yeah.

I had a ton of stuff that I wanted to post, but just no time to do it.  Most of it was time sensitive, so it's not really worth sharing anymore.
Now I gotta play catch up with reading stories and commenting and posting biker pics to the WOW journal.  I am way behind on those, also.
Enuf for now.  Maybe bug pictures tomorrow.  Eek!

Kind of a late clutch, I think. Hope they survive.

Everything's easier with balls. :B /shot

Those birds are freakishly cute!

Freakishly ugly, you mean! Or, so ugly they're cute.
It's weird that baby animals are so cute when young, but baby birds are just naked looking and...and...yeech. It must be the fur that appeals to us.

I had some House Wrens take over one of my hanging baskets a few years back. It was fascinating to see them grow.

I'm glad you had a nice, educational time with your brother. :-)

I think I recall you either posting pics or saying something about the wrens.
Or, I could have been drinking and just imagined it.

My bro rocks! Ya know, you fight like anything when younger, but when you get old, you appreciate them.

You're right, they are ugly XD
All baby birds are. I've seen some (on TV unfortunately, not live) that were even uglier XD
The only cute baby birds are those that leave the nest right away like chickens etc.

But at least they will grow up in beautiful robins, won't they? And the eggs were really pretty as well ^^

Oh, yeah - I forgot that chicks and ducklings are pretty cute when hatched. They are covered in that down stuff that is all fluffy looking. These babies are naked and are just starting to get pin feathers. I'll photo update probably tomorrow.

Yes, adult robins are pretty, and I love the egg color. I may make an icon of the eggs.

Nice to see you're still alive. I meant to PM you, but just haven't had the inspiration or time. ;)

Cool ^^

Don't worry. I'm rather busy myself right now. But just for once, it's not because of school, but because of all the stuff I wanted to do in my non-existant free time and couldn't. Now I finally have the time and it's great ^^
I'll still try to get something done this weekend. (Yeah, yeah, I now I promised that before ^^")
