Day 01 | Your favorite song
Favorite song?!? Like, for all time? When I was 6yo? When I was crushing on the musician? What the slag? That’s like asking me who’s my fav Tformer of all time. Or my fav movie. Oh…wait – you do ask my fav movie for question two. Grrr. *starts plotting another bracket*

I wasted way too much time on this stupid question. It was very hard to differentiate between fav song and songs that just make me happy.

Inspired by March Madness, I decided to do a song ‘playoff bracket’.

First, I picked 8 of my fav bands/singers. Then I listed their ‘best’ song on a slip of paper, crammed it in my pocket, and drew them out one by one to fill the left side of the bracket. Henceforth labled “North by Northwest, unless I mean South”.

John Cafferty – On the Dark Side
Osmonds – Down by the Lazy River
KISS – Do You Love Me?
David Bowie – Rebel, Rebel
Harry Nilsson – Jump into the Fire
CSN – Suite: Judy Blue Eyes
Eagles – Take it Easy
Guess Who – American Woman

My next step was to list individual songs that, if I heard them on the radio [Does anyone listen to the radio anymore? Or is it all MP3 nowadays? Slaggin’ kids – get off my lawn!!], I would crank the volume and sing along. Out of tune, of course, but it’s the effort that counts. I had to whittle this list down, and these 8 made the cut.

 Elvis – Burnin’ Love
Steve Earle – Copperhead Road
John Denver – Calypso
Don McLean – American Pie
Wild Cherry – Play That Funky Music
David Essex – Rock On
Rick Springfield – Jessie’s Girl
Grandmaster Flash – White Lines (Don’t Do It)

Again, paper slips went into my pocket, and I pulled out a used tissue. Discarding the tissue, I filled in the right side of the bracket, henceforth known as “South of the Border, Don’t Drink the Water”.

I then commenced choosing the song I most preferred in the random pairings, ending up with my logically picked, favorite song.

Steve Earl’s Copperhead Road.
