Writer's Block: Countdown

If a catastrophe struck and you had to leave your home in a hurry (and never return), what items would you grab in your last ten minutes, and why?

If I have use of my truck, I pack my 2 cats into their carriers and the dog, and food for them.  I'd also grab my guns and ammo, gas cans, any bottled liquids and canned foods, my security box with important papers, photo album, cell phone, first aid kit, blankets, gem stones, secret cash stash, and whatever heavy duty clothes I have time to grab.
With no truck, I'd probably let the cats go and just take the dog, guns, gems, cash and as much water as I could carry.   It must be a pretty dire time if I couldn't return, and those are the items that I think I'd need to survive for awhile.

Why gemstones?
I have collected these things for years but never considered them valuable unless set in something which as of yet I have not done. I guess in a post apocalyptic US they could have some value so I guess I would grab my parrot and gemstones. Thanks for the reminder. My latest find a 10 plus carat Colombian Emerald for an unheard of price thanks to slow economy!!

Re: Why gemstones?
I read too much apocalyptic science fiction. That's where I got my ideas.
Plus, gems are pretty! Nice looking emerald, I am jealous.
