Extreme Makeover in Buffalo

A special two-hour episode of ABC’s ‘Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” will be airing this Sunday, January 24th. It features a single mom and her four kids who live in Buffalo, NY (I live a half an hour south of Buffalo).

I remember the hullabaloo that went on over the summer for the week or so that the house was being rebuilt. There were over 4,000 people who volunteered to help out with the project, supposedly the most volunteers for a show - ever. Construction companies donated materials and labor and worked on the whole city block. There were about 7 homes that were actually affected by this makeover.   The local developer has plans to work on another neighborhood this coming summer, not just a single house. We’ll see if any of those volunteers from the show are available to help out when there are no TV cameras around. (I wish someone would volunteer to fix the Central Terminal.)

I have never watched this show, but I just might watch tom’r to see how Buffalo comes across. I hope they show the city in a positive light - primus knows we need all the positive publicity we can get. I am tired of the snow jokes and the references to being the ‘armpit of the east.’ This area has really gone downhill in the past 20 years, and most of the blame can be laid at the feet of the NY government. Too-high taxes, and the businesses go south, which leaves no jobs, which forces people to either follow the jobs south or go on welfare, which in turn makes our taxes go up – it’s a viscous circle.

But, that’s a rant for another day.

Let's see if I can get this feature to work as well!?
We see Extreme Makeover on cable TV over in England. I've seen a few eps, though not the Buffalo one. I shall look out for it, though I've just been watching the Home channel for a week or two while I was too knackered to do anything much! I don't make a regular habit of it. One thing I've noticed is that the new houses the families always end up with are absolutely enormous. Or maybe it's just the way they photograph them.

Damn girl, you're getting it!
Actually, I find leaving comments are the easiest to do. You just have to be careful and always preview what you wrote, because I don't think you can edit unless you have a paid account.
Will send an email soon, maybe tonight.
