Church and a secret

My sister coerced me into going with the family to Christmas Mass. OK, fine. But, why, oh why did we have to be the first ones there? Mass at 11am, we pull into the lot at 10:35. Grrr.

What is it about church-ey stuff that makes me feel and act like a 10-year old?

I grumbled about the song playing in the car. I grumbled about the early arrival. I grumbled about the hard bench hurting my back. The beginning organ music annoyed me. I was just a bitch on wheels. I hate being pressured into going, but if I didn’t cave, I would have heard about it from my sister for a week.

But, I was glad I went. Sometimes, it’s nice to just sit and contemplate life in general, just following the ceremony by rote. Plus, they played my favorite Christmas song, ‘Hark, The Herald Angels Sing’.

I’m thankful for what I have. Blah, blah, blah.

Thank goodness Christmas is OVER! Now I just have to get through New Year’s.

So let me tell you a secret. Back when I was a kid going to Catholic School - I think I was in the 3rd grade – we went to church once a week. I think it was on Friday. Anyway, being a curious kid, I wondered what this ‘Host’ thing was that we received from the priest. So one day after receiving it (on my tongue, not in the hands like they do nowadays), I spit it out and pressed it into the back of my prayer missal. I checked it out later, and then ate it. I did this for a few weeks, I really can’t remember why. Until one day I had to run back in church for something, and I handed my missal to my friend to hold. Well, you can guess what happened. She opened the missal and saw the Host and told the nun on me. (Bitch!) I was taken aside and asked what I thought I was doing and I lied my aft off and said I had never done it before and I just wondered what it looked like. I got off with a lecture and I promised never to do it again. Which I actually haven’t. But, I do buy the wafers from a catalogue and eat them up because I like the taste. I am so going to hell.

Cool. I have never come across anyone who eats them like I do. The folks that know about it think I'm weird. Well, I am, but that's another topic....
I buy mine at leafletonline.com. Search - hosts.
