Harley Davidson, Y U sew stoopid?

You might have heard that Harley Davidson has an electric motorcycle prototype.

What the hell were they drinking in the board room?
Mark my words, this is never gonna fly. Meaning, 'make them lots of money.' [When was the last time you saw a Buell?]

From what I read, this Livewire can travel 53 miles, at best, with a 3.5 hour recharge.
Fifty three miles.
That's not good enough for a person who wants to use it as a cruiser. I suppose that might be acceptable for riding to work if you are lucky to work close to home. But you better hope you don't get stuck in any traffic jams or you'll run out of charge. You might also have to worry about someone kicking it over for yucks, especially if you live or work in a rough neighborhood. ;)
I could probably make it to Buffalo, but wouldn't be able to get home until it charged up again.

I have a Harley Sportster. Thinking about the reasons I originally bought a HD, I figure...
55% for the attitude of the brand (yes, I'm a Harley snob),
30% for the sound (I love straight pipes),
10% for the vibration (seriously. If you sit juuusst right....), and
5% peer pressure.

My Sporty has a 'peanut tank' - holds 1.5 gal. of gas. Last I checked, I was able to go 125 miles before I ran out of gas and had to use the reserve. 53, my aft.

Sound, sound, sound, sound, sound.
Poe-tay-toe, Poe-tay-toe, Poe-tay-toe, Poe-tay-toe

HD tried to trademark the distinctive sound. Silly, yes? But, that distinctive sound is part of the brand. I can usually tell if it's a HD by the sound.
They gave it up in 2000.

Listen to the whizzzz of the electric. I agree that it sounds like "George Jetson's space coupe." [from a youtube comment]

[hey, I rode a M/C on Route 66!]

Compare to the sound of my bike as it runs.

Come on. Swoosh, or potato?

And, last but not least - it's ugly. Bleah.

[Crossposted from DW. Apparently, I like to spread my boring Spam all over the Internet. And, I paid for both sites, so I should use them like a mad monkey. Comment at either place, I'm easy.]
