Cleaning

My dying laptop is slower than usual. So I haven't really been able to peruse past page 2 of the friending meme. Or do much in the way of commenting. I'm tempted to reload Windows completely, but I have 3 drives on that laptop and I don't know how reloading will affect them. Damn Toshiba for not including a modem in my new laptop! I have to wait until my computer guy gets me one before things go back to normal.
I did go to the office last night after supper to use the wireless in the building. Stayed about 5 hours until almost midnight. At least I got some stuff done. I am mother sitting right now, so I am using my bro-in-law's fast laptop. I need to get through some of this backload. >:[
I think I'm going to go to the office tonight, too. Nothing on TV Sundays, anyway.

I had tried to post Friday night but laptop wasn't cooperating. ABC's 20/20 was showing a hoarder's house. At least I'm not that bad. They actually couldn't walk through the rooms and found a dead cat under refuse in the spare bedroom. (Although it is kind of hard to walk through my basement and I'm sure there are a few dead mice somewhere.) The show said, "There actually are some 10 million hoarders in the United States." I can believe that. And they also stated sometimes an emotional event can kick-start the hoarding. And you know, I think I really started getting bad after Rick died.
And to rub it in my face further, this morning's Buffalo News had an article about a family of hoarders in Buffalo who ended up being worth 2 million. The mother died, the son disappeared and some 2nd cousin twice removed ended up with the loot. Son was finally found dead in the basement 2 years after the fact, behind the furnace covered in a pile of stuff that fell on him. It's a real soap opera.

But, yesterday started a new phase - where I actually THREW STUFF OUT!! My friend came over at 8am and we cleaned up in the loft until 2pm. WOOT!
I can actually walk up the stairs now without tripping over papers, books or boxes. I went through about 12 boxes of papers, books, toys and clothes. I was ruthless - 98% of magazines, catalogs and newspaper clippings went into the recycle bins or burn garbage, invoices and receipts went in a box to be filed in the cabinet later, tax clients were filed in a new plastic storage box and my H&R Block notes and work papers got their own box. Kreo boxes and misc TF toys went in 2 more bins for later sorting.
I have to fine-tune the motorcycle group papers and another box of misc clippings and my special Garden Gate magazines, but that's not too much at all. I felt very accomplished and exhausted. I couldn't believe how much my shoulders hurt me in the evening.
I will try to do a bit more this evening, but it really goes faster when there is someone around to keep poking at you!

And now I have to show you what I scored from our local Hot Topic store. I suppose it is supporting my collecting crap habit, but it is definitely sell-able later.

I went in to pick up some t's I had ordered, and noticed a large garbage can behind the counter filled with broken down cardboard boxes - and a 3D TFormer posterboard! So, I asked if that was garbage and if I could have the TF. Young girl says, 'well, we're not supposed to give that stuff away, but I guess you could have it.' Score! Hey, it never hurts to ask. It probably helped that I had ordered $90 worth of shirts!
I am debating on where to put it, in my bedroom where only I will see it, or maybe in the kitchen over the cabinets behind the pottery. Hmm. Decisions, decisions.

OK, now I must do comments and a meme post.

Good for you getting rid of stuff!

I am by no means anywhere near hoarder status, but I do have a hard time getting rid of stuff, so I understand. It can be so difficult, especially if you think you might need something later!

It is hard to toss.
Oh, yea. I have boxes of plastic containers in the basement - just in case I may need them later. That all has to go, too. But, basement is to be done last.

Congratulations on the cleaning! It feels SO GOOD to throw stuff away. My granddad hired me to help him clean out his office this summer and we threw out soooo muchhh paper and trash and junk. Sent a lot to Goodwill too.

GOOD JOB downsizing!! Having a friend to help out is always a booster. Keep up the nice work!

What tees did you get from HT? They have a couple I have saved onto my wish list. Waiting for my ship to come in to get them. It's sad..... most of my Deceptiwardrobe is too big for me now. They'll make a nice quilt, but I will miss wearing them.

A couple were gifts, but I bought the one that has Starscream in his crown and cape for me. And one of the autobot ones.
You should resell them on ebay. I'm sure you could get a decent price.

I had to have the Starscream one, of course! LOL

I just can't sell them. I swear, if there was a fire in my home, I'd first save the animals, then the computer, then the TF collection, old shirts and all. :-D

3 hard drives in the laptop, or 3 partitions? Either way -- provided windows is the only thing on that drive/partition -- a reinstall shouldn't break anything at all. Might have to redirect it (depending on Windows version >.>) to where certain things are, but other than that...

When I was still on Vista, I reinstalled the sucker every 6 months -- games, docs, music etc was on a secondary hdd, with Windows on the smaller (slower :P) drive. Doesn't affect a thing, I swear to you. If there's any important files on the same drive/partition as the Windows installation, move 'em. OTOH, Windows does give you the option to save your files and reinstall the O/S around them. I admit the one time I did that, nothing went wrong. I just have a thing for clean installs.

Just know which drive or partition you're wiping when you do a reinstall. Nooo, I've never done that.

>.>

Good on you for clearing out! And sweet score on the sign.

3 partitions, I think.
I don't really know. But, I got my modem installed and I'm using the new laptop right now.
I will think about messing with the old one later when I have some time.
thanks.
