Well, motorcycle season hasn’t even officially started yet, and we’ve had our first fatality.

A biker was killed Tuesday when a cager blew a stop sign and struck him. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The other driver was taken to the hospital and listed in serious condition, so the crash must have been pretty intense. He is going to be charged with *gasp* ‘failure to stop at a stop sign and reckless driving.’ Well, duh. Another slap on the wrist because it was just a ‘sleazy biker-dude’ that got killed and he was probably a criminal and he must not have been wearing a helmet and driving too fast and you’re crazy if you ride those killer machines anyway.

I’ve always thought riding in the country to be safer than city riding, but I realize that’s not always true. It seems that there is at least one fatal motorcycle accident out here in the boonies, south of Buffalo. Many folks driving on the straight-aways don’t pay particular attention to stop signs, and it’s not just bikers that are getting hit. I hear of plenty of car/car accidents out here also.

If you’re out riding, be extra careful until motorists become used to us out on the road again. Be visible, use your brights during the day, wear your protective gear, always use both turn signals and hand signals, be aware. Let’s make this the safest year yet.

Oh, the cops said no alcohol was involved. Well, I guess they forgot to test for stupidity.
