My beauty question for the week is - why does dirt collect under short nails so easily, but not under long nails?
I have had both long and short, and have been very annoyed that I have to clean them often when shorter, say, 1/8 of an inch.  When my nails are long, as they are now (see pic where I am holding Ratchet - a la, "Land of the Giants" TV show), dirt doesn't accumulate.
Why is that?

And yes, those are my real nails.  Not fake.  I enjoy them while I can, because when I start splitting wood next month, they are going to start breaking.

My nails are like yours, and I've noticed that too. I think it's because long nails clean easier. Water gets in and does its scrubbyscrub job better when there's more room to work with.

Sounds logical to me.
I think the government needs a study on this phenomenon.
